'Great take on a 'modern' photo realism portrait' - Johanna Spinks juror

In wanting to do a group figurative painting, I was searching for a suitable topic
and became fascinated with people out strolling with their families. How we present
ourselves to each other and the world is endlessly varied and fascinating. I then talk
with those who appear visually interesting to me; 'Would you consider being the subject
of a painting?'. If they express interest, we arrange to meet for reference photos.
Then I cobble together a coherent picture based upon those images. I've found the Mejia family
to be perfect; a proud father, loving mother, protective pet, and their daughter embodying the future.
